"Mis ideas, las ideas sobre una educación musical elemental, no son nuevas, simplemente se me ha dado la oportunidad de presentar esas ideas tradicionales e imperecederas en términos actuales para mantenerlas vivas entre nosotros. Por ello, no me considero descubridor de nada nuevo sino como quien transmite una antigua herencia, o como el corredor que pasa la antorcha con la llama del pasado hacia el presente.

Esa será, asimismo, la tarea de los que vengan detrás de mí, porque si la idea permanece viva no se agotará como algo efímero. Para mantenerse vivo es preciso adaptarse al tiempo y a través del tiempo. Ahí radica la esperanza y el entusiasmo."

"All my ideas, the ideas of an elemental music education are not new. It was only given to me to present these old, imperishable ideas in todays terms, to make them come alive for us. I do not feel like the creator of something new, but more like someone who passes on an old inheritance, or like a relay runner who lights his torch at the fires of the past and brings it into the present.

This will also be the lot of my successors, for if the idea remains alive it will not be bound by their mortality. Remaining alive also means to change with time and through time. Therein lies the hope and the excitement."
